Tanner and I finally got both cabins open and had our first guests this weekend! This year we will keep them open till the end of September, so come STAY and PLAY with us for a few days!
Real good snow blizzard yesterday, 10" of heavy snow, so had to 'skin up' right out of the my place and cabins, and get a few last 'turns' in before all the snow is gone..... better than plowing or shoveling!
UPDATE on my latest experiment- 6000 watts of solar grid tie system with all electric car. First month of production, March 9 thru April 9, 5 miles north of Cantwell Alaska. These panels produced just over 800 KWHs of power. We only used 400 KWHs, mainly for driving around, app 700 miles worth. DID I TELL YOU I CAN MAKE "GAS" FOR THIS CAR NOW? We now have credit with GVEA for 400 KWHs just for the month of March's production which in this CHEVY car equals between 1200 to 2000 miles of driving!!!!! April's production will be much higher as more sun and I expanded the system to 8700 watts. For me, this has been more successful than I could have imagined. For me, driving around and not burning gas or diesel, no fumes, no noise has upped my quality of life by many degrees, Tanners, our guests, crew and everyone we drive past. HOW CAN I ENCOURAGE YOU TO START DOING THE SAME?
Enjoying myself powering our car, courtesy transportation for our fishing guests, EV public charging station and office with this 6000 watts of solar, gird tie system with help from Tanner and Renewable Energy Systems. Got room for an additional 3000 watts to be installed later this year. My first gird tie system! Learning new things helps keeps a person feeling young! This system brings us up to 14 KW of working solar panels right now on our homestead.....
FOR RENT- Getting back to making my living "IN" the wilderness, I have set up this Arctic Oven about 10 miles from the trail head, out along one of my traplines, in a quiet part of the mountains. This is available for rent to skiers, hikers or fat bikers. It is set up in an area that is too difficult to snowmobile to (too steep and brushy). Great ski trip destination for several days or a stop over on a longer trip. $35 a night, 2 night minimum, includes firewood for the inside stove. Great potential for some backcountry teleskiing. Just give me a call or text for information and reservations 907 354 0016
Singing Wolves, Song of Freedom, inside Denali National Park. Today, just a short snowshoe hike from our place and cabin. These four live right here in the valley year round and this pack has been my neighbors for many years.... I pushed them from this spot that they had been sunning on and just wanted to let me know that I was not alone today and that this is their country.
If I wasn't already too far out in left field, One of Alaska's first ALL ELECTRIC CAR! I can make electricity, but not gas, so I figure another 7500 watts worthof solar panels (which are on site, but not up yet, hopefully by mid May) and we can be picking up most of our fishing clients from the big hotels, and just traveling ourselves ALL ON SOLAR POWER ! ! ! A public EV level 2 charging station will power this and visiting EVs will be available by mid October, by mid May it should be at least 80% SOLAR POWERED, and 100% is my goal and I think realistic. I just could not let this revolution develop and not 'stand up and support it with my time, energy and money'.
So, if you want, join the revolution too, and I am sure willing to share anything I have learned, and I could not do this without doing it the cheapest way possible, because I have no support from the state government, the feds, GVEA (who will not buy my excess solar energy, which there is lot's of), the Rassmanson Foundation, etc. So, just ask
Calling all active adventurers in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Mat-su needing a great break from town life! We have wonderful log cabins for you and I am happy to give you the inside scoop on current conditions and which toys to bring up into these beautiful mountains for maximum FUN!!!
The Mongoose rules, still riding the morning hard trails up the Nenana River, app 16 miles round trip to Brushkasna Creek! Not bad for a $700 Fat Bike....
Looking down on our place, lakes, airstrip, hiking right out of our cabins on hard frozen snow and tundra, can't afford health insurance so I have to do things like this.....Life ain't easy!
Denali standing tall today as I ride right out of our place through Broad Pass....life is rough!
One of my neighbors that live on our homestead, best taken care of fish in all Alaska!
The Hanson family from Sydney Australia, our first cabin and fishing guests for 2017. Perfect weather, smiles and fun enjoyed by all. What lucky kids to have such wonderful parents!
Just a few days ago, I was riding my fat bike up Windy Creek into Denali National Park and met along the trail, two young couples on a multi-day ski trip and one of the women had a small child on her back, bundled up against the strong cold winds of the day.....sure made me reminisce about being able to raise my son Tanner with lots of time out miles away from the road system and support other than what we had with us.
At the time, I made my living on horseback in the snow free part of the year and snowgo in the winter. Most all these photos are taken miles away from the roads, no cell phones, no real support and most are on multi day trips with clients! WHAT A LIFE! Boy, were we taking risks! But I would not do it any other way, and today there are lots of couples doing incredible trips with kids in tow....my hat is off to all of them or you.
GET UP AND DO IT!! So encouraging to see this video of following your dream. Mike Komperda, a favorite fishing guide here, helped these guys shot our potion of this video they were making and it just hits me to the bone, as these are all things I love....though I am not riding like Andy is, thats for sure, but ...... AWESOME video at PINK BIKE.com
Dr Suess, was ( and still probably is for folks with small children) AWESOME!! I think this book was the first time I was fed the self satisfaction or personal need / desire to " SPEAK FOR THE TREES OR MOTHER EARTH.
One of my favorite activities.......With some AWESOME friends and guests coming here for many years...... We are hiking right out of our cabins ( no driving necessary ) and are crossing the Alaska Railroad tracks inside Denali National Park, heading up into the alpine on a another gorgeous day. Andy from Vashon Island ( on far right ) sent this photo and this was his first day at Denali and hopefully more in the future!! How about you? I invite you to join me for this healthy, CARBON EMISSION FREE, fun activity this summer!
I am sure happy to share what I have learned about making our own energy and living more in tune with the earth. Feel free to arrange a 'GOING GREEN TOUR' ($15 per person) or contact me at 907 768 2620 to get into our 'buying group' to get the best prices in Alaska. When I pass on to the next worlds, I would be real happy to be remembered as the 'Costco of alternative energy in Alaska'.
Just got back from Anchorage with another pallet of solar panels. Solarworld 235 watt panels, USA made, really nice and I do not intend to use all of them so THESE ARE FOR SALE TOO. Get in on this wholesale bulk pricing for the best prices in Alaska. I think everyone should be putting these up and learning to get your energy from somewhere else besides the "black tars from the bowels of the earth" and look upwards to the heavens for our need for extra energy.
Riding up the Nenana River on the ice, these fat bike sure are awesome! 1 year into this and these bikes are my most used outdoor toy. Not much daylight now, but come summer, we will enjoy 24 hours!

Born in New York, came to Alaska in 1979 and have never looked back. Been a great wild ride, now at 57 yrs old, these are my thoughts.
Please remember these posts are my opinions, and truly mean nothing. We do have a great place to experience, and don't let my 'rambling' to keep you from visiting us, I promise not to 'ramble' when you are here.
